1099 Tax Forms and Earnings

Quick Answer: If you earned $600+ in a tax year, a 1099-NEC form is mailed by January 31st and available online via a Stripe email link. Earned less than $600? No 1099, but you're still responsible for reporting income. Shiftsmart does not withhold taxes.

Details: Receiving your 1099: Physical copies mailed to your address on file by January 31st. Digital copies available via secure link in an email from Stripe — check spam/junk folders.

Ensure your email and address are always current in your profile. If you didn't receive it by mid-February, verify your profile info and check spam.

Under $600: No 1099 is issued. You are still legally required to report all income.

Tax responsibilities: As a 1099 independent contractor, Shiftsmart does NOT withhold income tax, Social Security, or Medicare. You are fully responsible for estimating and paying your own taxes, including self-employment tax. We strongly recommend consulting a tax professional. Support cannot calculate taxes, advise on deductions, or provide tax guidance.

Reviewing earnings: Use the Earnings tab in the app to review shift history and total earnings for tax preparation.

When to Submit a Ticket: Submit if you earned $600+ and haven't received your 1099 by mid-February (after checking spam), or if the 1099 amount appears incorrect. Include the tax year.
