Tips for a successful food preparation shift

General Etiquette Reminders

  • Introduce Yourself: Greet the manager and associates when you arrive. Don’t just start working without an introduction.
  • Check In/Out: Let the manager know when you’re leaving.
  • Offer to Help: If you finish early, ask if there’s anything else you can do to help.
  • Stay Flexible: If the manager asks you to do tasks outside of your usual duties, try to be flexible within reason.
  • Ask for Help: If you get confused, don’t just leave. Politely ask the manager or other staff for guidance.
  • Be Professional: Always be respectful and professional—no cursing or inappropriate behavior.

The 6 Core Steps of Food Prep

Each food prep shift involves 6 core steps. If you remember these, you'll be able to complete your shift successfully. Use this acronym to help: Please Understand CircleK’s Labeled Food Correctly.

  1. Please = Planogram
    • Set up your planogram, which shows where products go on the shelves.
  2. Understand = Upshop
    • Use the UpShop app on the store tablet to figure out how much food to cook.
  3. Circle K’s = Cook
    • Turn on the ovens, select the food you want to cook on the screen, and remove it when it beeps.
  4. Labeled = Label
    • Check the temperature, package, label the food, and put it out for customers.
  5. Food = Freezer
    • Restock any cooked food that needs to be pulled from the freezer.
  6. Correctly = Clean Up
    • Clean up your area and leave the store in better condition than you found it.
